Mr. Coffie Eshun, the father of the late hiplife musician, Castro, has recently disclosed that he remains resolute in his belief that his son may still be alive, despite having disappeared over a decade ago.
It will be recalled that Castro, whose real name is Theophilus Tagoe, went missing alongside Janet Bandu during a holiday trip in Ada on July 6th, 2014, while jet skiing with friends, including Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan.
Despite extensive search efforts, their whereabouts continue to be a perplexing enigma.
Speaking in a candid interview on Empire FM on Sunday, July 7, 2024, Mr. Coffie shared that he maintains hope, drawing strength from his faith that his son could one day be located. He also alluded to suspicions of foul play surrounding Castro’s disappearance.
The tragic event unfolded when the jet ski used by Castro and Janet Bandu was recovered, yet the bodies of the two individuals remained undiscovered despite ongoing police investigations.
According to Ghana’s Evidence Act, 1975 (N.R.C.D. 323), individuals who have been absent and unheard from for seven years, despite diligent search efforts, are legally presumed deceased. Section 33 of the Act, titled “Death after seven years absence,” stipulates that a person who has not been heard of for seven years, despite diligent attempts to locate them, is presumed dead.
However, there is no specific presumption regarding the exact time of death. Mr. Coffie Eshun’s unwavering hope in the face of this legal presumption highlights the enduring mystery and emotional distress surrounding Castro’s disappearance, leaving numerous questions unanswered even after a decade.
