A new album from Hov was teased by music video director Hidji after he shared a screenshot on social media, but is it real or just hype?
A clue that Jay-Z could be working on a new album just got hip-hop heads really excited, but Roc Nation might be trying to keep a lid on it all.
In case you were distracted by other hip-hop drama over the weekend, successful music video director Hidji sent the hip-hop world in a frenzy when he shared that he was in Atlanta working on a mystery project on Sunday. The director then posted a screenshot on his Instagram story of a conversation he had between himself and another mystery individual. And when asked whom he was working with, Hidji responded with one name, “Jay z.”
If you’re unfamiliar with Hidji’s work, he has directed music videos for some well-known artists, including A$AP Rocky, Nas, Young Nudy, Metro Boomin, Future, and many others. So yeah one could say he definitely has some pull in the hip-hop world.
As if that wasn’t enough to get hip-hop fans excited for some new music from Hov, Hidji later shared a photo of a clapperboard that read, “JAY Z – 2024 ALBUM.”
You would imagine that would get most hip-hop fans excited. Except just a couple of hours after Hidji’s posts made their way across all social media platforms, Roc Nation (which was founded by Hov himself) denied the rumors by tweeting, “That’s news to us.”
Quickly killing everyone’s dreams.
Or did they? As we know, MCs of a certain stature love to keep what they’re working on under wraps until they are ready to share it with the world.
Must we forget that in June 2023, Killer Mike said that an Andre 3000 album was coming, only to walk back the comments a couple of days later? But as we all know, Dre did indeed drop a solo album (even if it wasn’t what we expected).
So although Roc Nation is denying the news that a Jay-Z album could be coming in 2024, we wouldn’t be shocked if they’re just trying to protect their potential rollout down the road.
