Highlife musician Dada Hafco has commended Afua Asantewaa, the Sing-A-Thon sensation, for revitalizing Ghanaian music’s reputation.
Dada Hafco believes Afua Asantewaa’s Sing-A-Thon, where she captivated a crowd with Ghanaian music for days, dispelled the notion that Ghanaian songs couldn’t engage audiences. He expressed excitement about her achievements, suggesting that Afua Asantewaa deserves recognition as an ambassador for Ghanaian music.
The Sing-A-Thon faced skepticism before its launch, with debates about the popularity of Ghanaian music, questioning its appeal at events. However, Afua Asantewaa defied expectations, garnering massive support during her five-day project, showcasing both old and new Ghanaian songs.
Dada Hafco, drawing a parallel with the unity seen when rapper Kwesi Arthur earned a BET nomination in 2018, hopes that Afua Asantewaa’s success marks a turning point for the industry, emphasizing the need for continued projects that celebrate and elevate Ghanaian music on a global scale.
“If my memory serves me right, the last time everyone jumped on board a Ghanaian music ship to sail this deep into the waters was when Kwesi Arthur got a BET nomination.” he stated
