Jamaican singer of Ghanaian descent, Mo’ Spence has said that most Ghanaian artistes should quit music and find something else to do. She dropped this controversial comment during an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the Fiesta Hotel in Accra.
Despite her diplomatic approach of not mentioning specific names, she subtly provided us with a clue by stating that, in her opinion, only a handful of artists such as Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Kidi, Kuame Eugene, and Black Sherif are thriving, while the majority are simply squandering their time.
This is what she said: “Music is not about luck. You need proper planning to succeed. You don’t blow just because of luck. In fact, you need to work for that. I have been around for a while and studied the Ghanaian music scene and trust me, most of the musicians are just wasting their time and need to be told the truth. The truth is just one, you need to have a lot of money to do this music thing and talent also counts and I don’t see that with most of our artistes.”
“They would do themselves a lot of good if they focused on other endeavours instead of music. Look, the reason the Nigerians are way ahead of us is because they have the money and the talent as well. I don’t want to mention names but the artistes who need to call it quits with music and do something else know themselves.”
“In Ghana, the likes of Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, KiDi, Black Sherif, Kuami Eugene and just a few others are doing great. The rest must look elsewhere,” she concluded.
