Ghanaian recording artiste and entertainer, Denning Edem Hotor, known in showbiz as Edem Gogethem, has explained the reason for his choice of words in his new release, “We Don’t Really Care’’.
Edem in an interview on TV3’s New Day on the 26th October, 2023, revealed that his latest single is to create awareness about mental health. He elaborated that currently, one’s success is measured by certain societal timelines, but his song is advocating that individuals should ease down on themselves and not succumb to all these mental pressures.
“Young people are really under pressure to meet certain timelines according to their age. My song, ‘We don’t really care’ is about such mental pressures. As a young person, know your journey, know where you are coming from. Be yourself and don’t conform to societal pressures” the award-winning musician said.
In Ghana, it is assumed that by a certain age, one should have obtained certain properties. According to the musician, such assumptions are not the best practices.
“They only affect our mental health. Therefore, when I decided to come out with the lyrics of this song, I really thought about all these things and my people. Sometimes, the people we think care so much about us, do not care.’’
The Ewe rapper added that the video for ‘We don’t really care’ is out and gaining huge numbers on social media and all streaming platforms as it has become the official merry making Christmas song.
“Asking people to make merry no matter their problems. Without such attitude, sometimes one cannot survive in life”, Gogethem advocated.
Edem is an award-winning musician who hails from Dzodze in the Volta Region of Ghana. He rose to fame in 2006 with his first hit single “WOTOME WOSHI”. Edem the young Ewe rapper got signed to The Last Two Entertainment Group that same year and from then has been producing nice tunes to entertain Ghanaians.
